Vice President Guy Scott has urged the people of Chipata Central constituency to vote for Patriotic Front candidate Lameck Mangani in the forthcoming July 25 parliamentary by-election.
And Dr. Scott said it was remarkable that the people of Eastern province have quickly rallied behind the PF government in fostering development in the region.
Dr. Scott said the people of Chipata should at all cost vote for Mr. Mangani because he was the only candidate who understands the problems they face.
The Vice President said this in Chipata today shortly after PF candidate Lameck Mangani successfully filed in his nomination for the forthcoming parliamentary by-election.
Dr. Scott was in Chipata today to witness the filing of nominations by Mr. Mangani for the July 25 parliamentary by- election.
And Dr. Scott has assured the people of Chipata that government will remain committed to timely completing various developmental projects which were left unfinished by the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) administration.
He said the PF government has put aside visionless politics and is therefore committed to improving the living standards of the Zambian people through the provision of quality basic and essential needs.
Meanwhile, all the five candidates contesting the July 25, 2013 Chipata Central parliamentary by-elections have successfully filed in their nominations and declared themselves ready for the battle in the political field.
Retuning Officer Michael Ngulube opened the Council Chamber this morning at exactly 09:00 hours and closed the nomination exercise this afternoon at 15:20 hours.
Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD) candidate Reuben Mtolo, who was accompanied by party president Nevers Mumba, party treasure Mwansa Mbulakulima and deputy national secretary Chembe Nyangu among other senior party officials, was first to file in his nominations papers at 09:10 hours.
Ruling PF’s candidate Lameck Mangani was second to file in the nomination papers at 11:20 hours.
Mr. Mangani was accompanied by Vice President Guy Scott, campaign manager for Chipata Central by-election Effron Lungu and Msanzala Member of Parliament Joseph Lungu.
Speaking to Journalists soon after filing in his nomination, Mr. Mangani said he was the only credible candidate who understands the issues affecting the people of Chipata Central constituency.
Mr. Mangani said he already has an extensive development agenda which would spur activities once he is elected as the area Member of Parliament.
United National Independence Party (UNIP) candidate Elina Nyirenda was third to file her nomination at 12 :10 hours while Independent candidate Jean Nkunika filed at 14:15 hours followed by National Restoration Party NAREP) candidate Kazembe Daka, who filed last at 15:20 hours.
The Chipata seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court nullified the election of MMD’s Reuben Mtolo. This followed a successful election petition by losing PF candidate Lameck Mangani in the highest Court in the land.
