Civil Servants urged to interpret benefits of subsidies’ removal
Kalabo, June 23rd,2013,ZANIS——-UPND Kalabo central area Member of Parliament (MP) Chinga Miyutu has implored civil servants in Kalabo district to help government interpret the benefits of the removal of subsidies on fuel and maize.
Mr. Miyutu, who is also Sport and Youth deputy minister, explained that the resources to be served from the subsidies will be used by the state to develop rural district such as kalabo District.
ZANIS reports that the UPND Kalabo central area Member of Parliament made the appeal when he addresses civil servants in Kalabo district on government’s decision to remove subsidies.
The deputy minister stressed that politicians opposing the move taken by government are against seeing development in rural areas.
Mr. Miyutu said subsidies on fuel and maize favoured mostly the rich unlike the poor who reside in rural districts.
The MP cited Kalabo district as one of the districts that has not fully benefited from subsidies.
Mr. Miyutu wondered how fuel subsidies have benefited the people of Kalabo when the district has no standard roads.
He noted that Kalabo is in dare need of infrastructure development such as roads, teachers accommodation and rural health centers.
And speaking earlier, Kalabo District Commissioner Irene Mate appealed to civil servants to support government in its quest to develop kalabo district.
