——-A suspected tock thief in his 30s has been killed by a mob in Nchelenge district of Luapula province.
Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer (CO), Philemon Mutale, who confirmed the incident to ZANIS today, said the victim was attacked by the mob around 02:00 hours on Monday in the process of attempting to steal goats.
Mr Mutale said the incident happened at Piyani Village in chief Kambwali’s area.
He said the victim was taken to Nchelenge police station on Monday around 07:30 hours in an unconscious state and before officers rushed him to Saint Paul’s Mission Hospital where he died a few hours later.
The Police Chief said the victim has not been identified and that efforts to track his relatives have proved futile, adding that his body is laying at Saint Paul’s Mission Hospital mortuary.
Mr Mutale has appealed to the members of the general public who may be missing a male relative to visit Nchelenge police station to help identify the corpse.
Mr Mutale said no suspect has been arrested so far in connection with the matter.
He, however, said the owner of the goats, Justine Kakungulu, aged 41 of Piyani village in has been detained at Nchelenge police station to help with investigations.
