——-Petauke District Commissioner, Elijah Mwale, says Government will support farmers that have engaged in crop diversification.
Mr Mwale said crop diversification is one way in which people can alleviate hunger among themselves.
He was speaking to ZANIS in Petauke this morning.
Mr Mwale stressed the need for all farmers in the district to enhance crop production through diversification, saying those that had started growing cashew had taken a positive step.
He said government would allocate funds in the 2014 Yellow Book to support the cashew nuts growers in both Western and Eastern Provinces.
Mr Mwale called on the Cashew nuts Growers Association of Zambia (CGAZ) not to relent their efforts in taking keen interest in cashew nuts production as it would uplift their living standards.
He stated that government, through the Citizen Economic Empowerment (CEEC), fund had already started rendering financial support to cashew nut growers Mongu, Western province.
On Tuesday, CGAZ had a Public Engagement Day at Peter Malumbe’s farm in chief Nyampahande’s Nyamphondolo area.
