——Central Province Minister,
Phillip Kosamu has lauded the efforts by the church in
mentoring youths .
The minister is happy that the church has mentored youths to develop innovative minds
and encouraged them to learn various skills for the enhancement of national development.
He observed that government cannot achieve proper and meaningful
development without active participation of the church which he
described as one of the key stakeholders of national development.
The Minister said this in a speech read for him by central province
deputy permanent secretary Ronald Sinyangwe at the 2013 provincial
Youth week interdenominational Thanksgiving ceremony held at Kabwe
Chapel in Kabwe, yesterday.
“The church is better placed in mentoring the youth in spiritual
aspects of life that ensures level headedness and humbleness which are
a key to good character and hard work.” He said.
He urged the youths to desist from vices that would
endanger their lives and to instead delve into developing their
abilities to contribute to national development.
The minister said he that he would like to see the youths develop skills and talent in various
disciplines like sport, music, worship and praising God.
He further said the essence of the interdenominational youth church
service is to enhance youth participation in religious activities for
their spiritual growth and responsibility to thank God for the many
blessings He has bestowed upon the youth of Zambia.
“It is my sincere hope that this year’s theme [Opportunity for youths
through enterprise] will inspire our children and youths in joining
government’s on-going programmes of transforming youths into useful
and productive citizens that will contribute positively to sustainable
national development” , he said.
Meanwhile, speaking earlier Kabwe District
Commissioner, Patrick Chishala and the Youth Representative, Chimwemwe
Muwowo urged youths to capitalize on the available minimum
opportunities created by government and encouraged them to have a
broad attitude towards national development.
Mr. Muwowo further appealed to his fellow youths to stay focused in
life and refrain from indulging themselves in evil vices such as drug
abuse and illicit sexual indulgence.
