ZAMBIAN burly striker Collins Mbesuma struck just before half-time to propel his South African Premier club Mpumalanga Black Aces into second position on the Absa Premiership table with a 1-0 win over Ajax Cape Town at Mbombela Stadium.
The win took Aces to 24 points, just two points behind leaders Bidvest Wits, who lost 2-1 to Kazier Chiefs, with the goal now taking Mbesuma into sole leadership of the top scorers chat with seven goals from 12 matches.
Mbesuma pounced in the 42nd minute with the goal turning out to be the only goal of the game and atoned for his earlier miss on 29 minutes which was saved at the near post.
In another PSL match, Zambian forward Mwape Musonda scored the only goal of the match to help Golden Arrows move into the top eight after a 1-0 win at home to Polokwane City.
Musonda scored in the 25th minute to hand Arrows new coach Clinton Larsen his first win in charge of the side at the Chatsworth Stadium.
Meanwhile, SuperSport reports that 2015 Zambian Coach-f-the-Year George Lwandamina has paid tribute to his ex-protégé and Green Buffaloes coach Bilton Musonda whom he beat to this year’s award.
Musonda played under Lwandamina at Mufulira Wanderers in the 1990’s winning two league titles in 1995 and 1996. He was later assistant coach when Lwandamina was managing Green Buffaloes six years ago.
Lwandamina said sharing the same stage with Musonda for the 2015 Coach-of-the-Year nominations gave him a sense of pride.
“Bilton was my player and he was later also my assistant, if he can start challenging me (for honours) it is an indication of my success. Passing it on is the only way to measure success for an individual,” he said.
Musonda capped his 2015 season with Buffaloes by leading them to their debut Barclays Cup triumph where they won 2-0 after beating Nkwazi-who were coached by another 2015 coach nominee Elijah Chikwanda.
Furthermore, Musonda got the best over his ex-boss Lwandamina in the Barclays Cup after eliminating Zesco 1-0 at the semi-final stage to deny the league champions an opportunity of a back-to-back double.
Buffaloes finished fourth on the FAZ Super League table in 2015, their best league placing since finishing 3rd behind Zesco in 2010.
