Zambia’s pre-tournament camping for the 2016 Caf African Nations Championship has been postponed by two weeks.

The team was due to go into camp on December 15 but will instead enter camp in a fortnight’s time starting on December 28.

“The technical bench reluctantly moved camping from Monday to after Christmas to enable the players have enough rest having endured a long season laced with several international commitments,” Football Association of Zambia spokesperson Nkweto Tembwe said.

“We expect them to reserve their energies for the national team so that when they report to camp they will be fresh and able to deliver.”

Zambia will be taking part in only their second Chan tournament when the fourth edition of the championship kicks off on January 16 in Rwanda.

They are in Group D where they have been drawn against Mali, Uganda and arch-rivals Zimbabwe.

Zambia will kick-off their Group D campaign on January 19 against Zimbabwe in what is expected to be a grudge clash after the latter eliminated Chipolopolo from the 2014 qualifier with a 1-0 aggregate win.

Chipolopolo’s only other Chan appearance was in the inaugural tournament hosted by Cote d’Ivoire in 2009 when they finished third under the helm of Herve Renard.

Meanwhile, Power Dynamos insist that Zambia defender Christopher Munthali’s contract does not expire on New Year’s Eve.

Munthali said last week that he might be leaving Power in the new year when his contract with the six-time champions expires on December 31.

“Munthali has another full year at the club. His contract goes up to 31st December 2016,” Power club secretary Ricky Mamfunda said.

“So, as far as Power Dynamos is concerned, we do not have intentions to release him to any club at home or outside and the coach Tenant Chilumba still has plans for him next season. so he is not going anywhere.

“In any case, no club has approached us to express interest in his services, there are no offers from any one, so he is a Power Dynamos player and he is not going anywhere.”

Munthali, who returned to Power this season after a two-year loan stay at Nkana, is the subject of interest from Zesco United and Zanaco who will represent Zambia in the 2016 Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.

South African PSL club Golden Arrows are believed to be tracking the 24-year-old striker who have over 15 caps and three goals for Zambia.

Munthali has previously been linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United.
