ZAMBIA will avoid West African giants Ivory Coast and Guinea at the 2016 Rwanda African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals.
Making their second appearance at a tournament for players featuring in their domestic leagues, the Chipolopolo will also avoid Ethiopia, who are in Pot 4.
The CHAN finals draws will be held today at Serena Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda.
Zambia could face hosts Rwanda, or neighbours Democratic Republic of Congo, who are placed in Pot 1.
George Lwandamina’s team could also be drawn against Nigeria or Mali, who are in Pot 2.
Zambia could also face North African giants Morocco or Cameroon, who are in Pot 3.
The seedings were decided based on the ranking taking into consideration the results of the various teams at the three previous CHAN finals – 2009, 2011 and 2014.
The formulae adopted for each edition were: seven points for the winner, five for the runners-up, three for semi-finalists, two for reaching the quarter-finals and one for failing to go past the group stage.
Zambia failed to qualify for the 2014 edition in South Africa while champions Libya have not made it to next year’s event.
The event is set for January 16 to February 7.
Pot 1: Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tunisia, Zimbabwe
Pot 2: Angola, Nigeria, Gabon, Mali
