Police in Kitwe have arrested UPND Nkana Constituency Chairman Leonard Simwaba for allegedly inciting people to protest over the non issuance of mobile National Registration Cards.
This was after Mr Simwaba led a group of people to the office of the Kitwe Town Clerk Bornwell Luanga and District Commissioner Chanda Kabwe to complain over the non-issuance of mobile NRC’s in the city.
Mr Simwaba complained that young people risk losing out on the 2016 General Elections because the issuance of voter’s cards may end before the issuance of NRC’s commences in Kitwe.
The procession later went to the office of Kitwe District Commissioner Chanda Kabwe where they demanded that the issuance of Mobile NRC’s starts now.
But Mr Kabwe clarified that the issuance of NRC’s is yet to start in Kitwe as the Copperbelt is in the last phase.
He said at present, some provinces were conducting the mobile issuance of NRC’s as per government program and will soon reach the Copperbelt.
Mr Kabwe described the behavior of the UPND district chairman as anarchy and urged opposition political leaders at district level to dialogue when they are aggrieved.
