DISMISSED workers of First Quantum Minerals (FQM) have given the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) a five-day ultimatum to compensate them failure to which they will institute civil and criminal proceedings against the ACC for allegedly leaking investigation statements from them to the mine management.
This is in a matter in which ACC officers allegedly leaked the investigation statement of workers to FQM management which led to their dismissal.
In a letter addressed to ACC director general Rosewin Wandi, Keith Mweemba Advocates said their clients had confirmed that they had a full ACC investigative report at a named Non-Government Organisation where they reported the matter.
“This ACC investigative report which our clients are privileged to have custody of confirms our earlier conclusion that the ACC officers deliberately leaked the investigation statement to the mine,” read part of the letter.
The letter said the client observed with dismay ACC’s deliberate attempt to hoodwink and divert client’s attention by purporting to show that First Quantum Minerals and Operations Limited was the one that caused his dismissal when in actual fact it was the ACC through its, inter alia, criminal negligence of documents that initially endangered the client. Keith Mweemba Advocates said in view of the report confirming the fact, the law firm was under strict instruction to demand for compensation in its letter dated October 1, 2014, be paid as compensation in the next five working days from the date of receipt of the letter.
The letter further said it was unfortunate that the commission wanted to pretend as though it was not the one that caused the dismissal through ACC’s, inter alia, criminal negligence.
