Former Energy Minister Amos Midzi (62) has been found dead in his car at his Marirangwe farm outside Harare with the car keys missing according to reports.
The vehicle in which Midzi was found was locked and the police could not find the keys on the scene. They then broke the door to get to his body.
The cars keys were then found under the mat in the car. Also found inside were small blue pills and $282.
Midzi’s body was found at the backseat with his legs stretched in-between the front seats where gear lever is positioned.
His brother Stanley is said to be complaining that the body was moved by the police before he had seen it.
“The family has lost a pillar. I will leave it to the Zanu PF Harare province who worked with him to speak more on how they related together,” Stanley is quoted saying.
Mourners are gathered at 857 Nursery Road, Mount Pleasant in Harare.
The former Zanu PF Harare Province chairman was expelled from his position for allegedly belonging to a faction of the party loyal to expelled former Vice President Joice Mujuru.
Its claimed the faction allegedly plotted to topple President Robert Mugabe in the run up to the Zanu PF congress last year.
As the infighting in Zanu PF intensifies the party suspended 89 officials last week including Midzi.
While some were suspended for three years, Midzi and others were slapped with 5 year suspensions.
Midzi was appointed as Zimbabwe’s ambassador to the United States in 1993.
He ran as the ZANU-PF candidate for Mayor of Harare, in March 2002, but was defeated by Elias Mudzuri of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).
Midzi served successively in Cabinet as Energy and Power Development minister and Mines and Mining Development minister between 2002 and 2009.
