George Lwandamina has admitted he knows very little about Guinea Bissau but is confident Zambia will get a favorable home result on Saturday in the two side’s opening 2017 Africa Cup Group E qualifier.
Lwandamina took charge of Zambia on Monday following the dismissal of Honour Janza after ten months in charge as interim coach.
The Zesco United coach takes over from Janza just five days before Zambia host Guinea Bissau.
“What is important knows my team which is Zambia so my task now is to know every player,” Lwandamina said.
“If I concentrate on them I don’t mind about the other camp we can still deliver.”
The meeting will also be the two side’s debut clash.
Lwandamina kicked off his first day at the office on Tuesday morning with his first training session at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe where the team set up base on Monday afternoon.
Eighteen players who arrived on Monday from a 1-0 away friendly win over Ethiopia were joined in camp by high profile players like goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene and his Mamelodi Sundowns clubmate Mukuka Mulenga who were excused from Sunday’s warm up in Addis Ababa.
“We have two groups; one that travelled and one that didn’t travel to Ethiopia so I have to put them together and see how best we can mould one team to play over the weekend,” Lwandamina said.
“I know the time is short but us to work through the paces and make sure we have the right fitness and the team to deliver.”
