—-Southern Province Minister, Daniel Munkombwe, says government is concerned at the rising crime wave in the province.
Mr Munkombwe says there is need for police to step up efforts in curbing crime throughout the province so that people can continue enjoying peace.
He says cattle rustling have been problematic in some districts like Monze and that police need to redouble their efforts to arrest the situation.
The minister was speaking in Choma today when he handed over a brand new Land Rover to the Zambia Police meant for Gwembe district. The vehicle has been bought by government.
Mr Munkombwe said police must be able to reach out to all far-flung areas, especially those in the Gwembe valley.
He said although police cannot completely wipe out crime they can minimize it.
And speaking earlier, Southern Province Police Commissioner, Charity Katanga, thanked government for providing the police with additional transport.
Ms Katanga said police in Gwembe, though covering a wide area, have had no transport for a long time.
