TWO juvenile girls have pleaded not guilty to stealing clothes valued at K235 before the Livingstone Magistrate’s Court.
This is in a case in which the two girls, aged 13 and 14, are charged with theft.
It is alleged that May 9 this year, in Livingstone, the duo jointly and whilst acting, stole one dress, one vest and one short valued K235, the property of Baba Lubasi.
When the matter came up for plea before resident magistrate Chinkashi Chilingala, he took note of the ages of the accused persons as being juveniles who needed to be heard in camera.
He said his court would therefore sit as a juvenile court in the presence of the parents of the accused persons.
The 13-year-old girl denied the charge by stating that she never took the clothes in question.
“I admit the charge, however, I am not the one that took the clothes. But when they were being taken, I was present,” said the child.
And the 14-year-old told the court that she was also denying the charge.
And the court told the juveniles that it would record a plea of not guilty for both of them.
“I will record a plea of not guilty and I also adjourn the matter to the fourth of June for commencement of trial, and I even extend their police bond,” magistrate Chilingala said.
He also reminded the parents of the children to be present whenever the matter comes up. The court, further said the parents could be excused if they so wished.
