Lusaka Voice is one of the Official Sponsor for Esther Phiri vs Sandra Almeida fight
SOUTH African boxer Sandra Almeida says Esther Phiri has awakened a sleeping lion and warned that she will be killed during next month’s World Boxing Federation (WBF) and Women International Boxing Association (WIBA) welterweight unification title fight.
The fight is set for May 22 at Government Complex in Lusaka.
Sandra said in an interview from Johannesburg yesterday that she is not intimidated by her opponent’s past record.
The 32-year-old has a record of 10 fights-five wins, four losses and a draw.
“But what they [Esther and her team] should know is that they have disturbed a sleeping lion. I am coming there to kill her. I can’t wait to come and receive those dangerous punches she has prepared for me,” she said.
“I believe in myself and what I do. I have enough experience. This is not the first time I will be fighting. I am ready for her even though I don’t know much about her.”
She, however, expects a tough fight.
“I only hope Esther and her team have prepared hard well,” Sandra said.
And Esther vowed to send Sandra into early retirement.
She said Sandra is a finished boxer who needs to rest.
Meanwhile, the organising committee has raised K360,000 from the K600,000 needed to stage the fight.
