The Fisheries department in conjunction with the Zambia Wild life Authority (ZAWA) has arrested 17 people at Namusonde area for illegal possession of fish.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock imposed a 90-day annual fish ban effective December 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015.
ZANIS in Namwala reports that the suspects were found with 2 tons of dried fish and 213 kilo grams of fresh fish.
According to a source from the fisheries department the suspects were found at Namusonde area of chief Mungaila as they were about to board a bus to Choma.
The suspects are believed to be from Chilala, Busangu, Chikwato and Chitumbi camps around the Kafue flats.
The fisheries department has since warned people who are fishing illegally that they would face the wrath of the law and appealed for patience to wait for the fish to breed.
