–Police in Mongu district have arrested two suspected Caravina gunmen and recovered one AK 47 rifle with four rounds of ammunition.
The duo was arrested on December 26, 2014 around 22:00hours.
The two suspects, identified as Kalaluka Kowaya aged 37 of Sikahulu village chief Akabati of Lukulu district and Chingenge Chilanda, 43, of Chilanda village Chief Mutu-wakayi of the same district, were found armed in Limulunga district with the AK 47 rifle plotting to kill Bisenga Bisenge, 66, their in-law on allegation of practicing witchcraft.
Western Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lombe Kamukoshi, told ZANIS that the two suspects came from Lukulu to Limulunga district in Ngamba village at Manongo Nanjama`s house, aged 75, around 22:00hours on December 25, 2014 asking for a place to sleep for a night.
Ms Kamukoshi stated that Nanjama, after giving them accommodation, asked the suspects on what they were doing and why they had travelled during such an awkward time.
She said the duo told the householder that they came on the mission of killing Bisenga because he was a sorcerer and did not want people know their presence.
The Police Commissioner narrated that it was at that point that Nanjama, the aunt of the victim, got concerned and went to inform her nephew about the presence and the motive behind the visit of the suspected bandits in the area.
She noted that the alleged sorcerer went and tipped the community that later apprehended them from the house where they were sleeping on Christmas day around 23:00hours.
And the community reported the case to police who also rushed to the scene and arrested them and collected the gun which was hidden in the bag.
The duo is currently in custody at Mongu Central Police to help police with further investigations.
