The development has been confirmed by Muchinga Deputy Police Commissioner, Bonny Kapeso, to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) Chinsali today.

Mr Kapeso said the accident occurred yesterday around 12:40 hours at Mucheleka village in Chinsali district.

He said the accident happened when the driver of the unregistered Nissan Colder, Joshua Musodza, 28, of Harare, Zimbabwe, hit Catherine Mwelwa, aged 4, who was crossing the road from right to left and died on the spot.

He explained that the 4 year old girl sustained fatal head injuries, adding that the vehicle incurred a damaged right head lamp.

In Mpika district an unknown motorist heading south of Mpika hit a cyclist, Peter Chilekwa, 18, of Mwilala village, who was going in the opposite direction around 18 :30 hours at Kalonje area.

Mr Kapeso told ZANIS that Chilekwa died on the spot of head injuries while his bicycle passenger, Samuel Mupeta, 19, is nursing serious body injuries at Chilonga Mission Hospital.
