Government says it will provide logistical support towards the funeral of the Mbala-Nakonde accident victims.

Acting President Guy Scott says the assistance will be in form of food, coffins and burial arrangements through Mbala District Disaster Management Committee.

Dr. Scott has for this reason wished quick recovery to the accident victims who sustained injuries from the accident and at the same time conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

He has also called on increased road patrols by the Zambia        Police service and Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) officers to ensure that drivers have correct licenses and that the vehicles are road worthy.

ZANIS reports that the Acting President said this in a statement released in Lusaka this evening.

He expressed his sadness at the death of 27 passengers who were killed in avoidable circumstances.

The Acting President said he regrets that citizens continue losing their lives in road carnages due to negligence by some drivers who he said go ahead and risk people’s lives despite not being legible drivers.

He has since pledged government’s commitment to ensuring that passengers and their rights as well as safety are protected so as to mitigate problems of road carnages.

On Saturday, 27 people died on the Mbala-Nakonde road when the Mitsubishi Light Truck registration number ACX 5816 that they were travelling in overturned 29 kilometres away from Nakonde.
