Boy denied to marry older lover, commits suicide

A GRADE 10 pupil of Ilondola Secondary School in Chinsali has committed suicide after his parents allegedly denied him permission to marry his older lover.
Muchinga Province deputy commissioner of police Bonny Kapeso said the incident happened on Wednesday around 15:00 hours in a bush near the house of the boy’s parents.
Mr Kapeso identified the boy as Rodgers Chintu, 18, of Pensulo village.
He said the reason the deceased’s parents could not allow their son to marry was that the woman was older than their son.
“It appears the deceased was deeply in love with a woman, who is believed to be slightly older than him. So, based on that fact, his parents stopped him from marrying his lover.
“Other than that, the deceased wanted to stop school and go into an early marriage with this same woman, a situation that his father could not condone,” Mr Kapeso said.
He said the boy had left a suicide note which reads in part, “I have decided to end my life because my father could not allow me to marry the woman that I so much loved.”
