Taxi driver survives accident at Turnpike abattoir

—A taxi driver has sustained a deep cut in his forehead and rushed to Kafue General Hospital following a road traffic accident at Mazabuka/Chirundu T-junction in Chikankata district this morning.

 

 

The involved a taxi and a Zambia Police vehicle, registration number ZP 2183 B, which was being driven by Constable Benard Yangani.

 

The police vehicle hit into a Toyota Corolla, the taxi, registration number ABE 9311, driven by Given Milambo.

 

Speaking at the scene of the accident, a Sgt Sikede of Turnpike Police station said the accident happened around 09:00 in the morning.

 

Sgt Sikede noted that Constable Yangani was over speeding on his way from Siavonga to Lusaka taking suspects to court.

 

“Both vehicles were coming from the same direction but the taxi driver indicated that he was turning to the right into the nearby abattoir at Turnpike. However, the Land Cruiser was over-speeding and hit the Corolla at the driver’s door,” he said.

 

Sgt Sikede explained that the driver of the Toyota Corolla is a taxi driver in Chikankata District while the driver of the Land cruiser is from Siavonga District.

He said the driver of the Corolla sustained a deep cut on his forehead and suspected internal injuries at the right ribs.

 

He was immediately rushed to Kafue General Hospital for treatment and observation.
