COACH Honour Janza has demanded for an improved showing from the Chipolopolo in the remaining three games after dropping two crucial points in Niger if the 2012 champions are to qualify to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco.
Janza said the Chipolopolo should not be content with their current output but aim to fight harder and earn qualification.
He said in a post-match interview after seeing his charges battle to a 0-0 draw at Stade General Seyni Kountche in Niamey on Saturday.
Cape Verde lead Group F on six points, one better than Mozambique while Zambia and Niger have two points apiece.
Janza said the Chipolopolo now needed to get all the nine points from the remaining three 2015 AFCON qualifiers starting with Wednesday’s return leg against Niger.
Despite trailing second-placed Mozambique, who beat Group F leaders, Cape Verde, by three points, Janza said the Chipolopolo were still in contention for a place in Morocco and had nine points to fight for.
“We have to fight beyond 100 per cent. You don’t have to get satisfied but we need to go to 120 per cent. We are still in contention and have nine points to fight for,” Janza said.
The Chipolopolo trainer also reckoned that Niger had some good players who gave his charges a tough match in the weekend match in Niamey.
Janza is now hoping for maximum points against the Mena on Wednesday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Niger coach Gernot Rohr said Group F was still open and believes the Mena’s chance of qualifying to the next year’s continental showpiece.
Rohr said the game against the Chipolopolo on Wednesday was the most important for the Mena in their campaign for a place in Morocco.
He said Niger needed to play well in the return leg and hope to get the result in Ndola.
The German trainer said both teams now had two points and would fight hard for the result.
Meanwhile, the Chipolopolo returned home yesterday morning while Niger are expected to arrive today aboard a chartered flight.
The chartered plane carrying the Chipolopolo touched down at the Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola around 06:30 hours and there was no fanfare as no fans turned up to receive the 2012 champions, who are struggling to stamp their authority in the 2015 AFCON qualifiers
The team was received by Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) committee member Pivoty Simwanza and the team was driven to Mukaba Hotel where they will set up base ahead of Wednesday’s match.
