—-Unknown people have allegedly killed a woman and set her body ablaze in Chibombo district.
The incident is suspected to have occurred between Monday night and the early hours of yesterday (Tuesday) near Kasukwe market.
The body of the woman was discovered by one of her relatives, yesterday morning in the bush near the deceased’s roadside makeshift house.
The sister of the deceased, Perpetual Mutoya, has since identified the woman as Janet Muchane Chiota, aged 23, of Kapila village in Chief Liteta’s Chiefdom in Chibombo district.
Ms Mutoya told ZANIS that the deceased had been sleeping in the makeshift house near the Great North Road where she has been selling water melons, tomatoes and other merchandise.
Police have since picked up the body which is currently at Liteta hospital mortuary.
And Central Province Police Commissioner, Standwell Lungu, has confirmed the incident, adding that one suspect has since arrested to help with investigations.
Meanwhile, an angry mob of mourners in Shiyala village in Keembe area in the district on Monday descended on two elderly people beating one of them to death and injuring another on suspicion that the duo was practicing witchcraft.
Central Province Police Commissioner, Standwell Lungu and Keembe Ward Councillor Kelvin, Chikatula confirmed the incident to ZANIS in separate interviews.
Mr Chikatula has identified the deceased as Henie Katyaka, female, of Shiyala village and aged between 70 and 76 years.
The councillor also identified the other person who has been injured by the mob as Daniel Mulayisho aged 84, who is also headman Shiyala.
Mr Chikatula said the duo was accused of having bewitched Clever Mutampuka, aged 27, of the same village who had died on Saturday after a short illness.
He said the confusion which led to the beating of the duo erupted during the body viewing on Monday when some mourners accused the two that they were behind the death of Mutampuka.
Police have since arrested two people in connection with the case.
