IT WAS a bitter pill to swallow for a Lusaka house wife after her husband of eight years left her and opted to marry his workmate.
Olivia Mulenga, 22, of Lusaka’s Chazanga dragged Jackson Musonda, 26,of Zingalume Township to the Matero Local Court seeking a divorce.
Mulenga and Musonda who have one child got married in 2006.
Mulenga narrated how Musonda chased her from home adding that pleas from her parents for them to reconcile were not fruitful. The couple has been on separation for eight months.
“I initially sued him for marriage reconciliation but he declined to reconcile. He went ahead to marry a woman who works at his company’s canteen,”she said.
But Musonda denied chasing Mulenga before Senior Court Magistrates Lewis Mumba and Petronella Kalyelye claiming she left on her own. He however, admitted marrying a workmate but blamed Mulenga for his action.
He said his parents- in-law advised Mulenga to return to her husband but she did not heed.
“She does not respect and does not want my relatives to visit our home. She would even insult my parents every time we had a marital dispute,” she said.
“Ever since we went on separation, our child does not even go to school”.
The couple was granted divorce with the court ordering Musonda to compensate Mulenga with K7, 000 as well as K200 monthly towards child maintenance.
