Two people have died while three others have been injured after a truck rammed into the Mitsubishi bus they were travelling in about 15 kilo meters from Livingstone town.
Police have named the deceased as Mudenda Siachundu, 46 and Nyambe Matediso a foreign national who died on the spot around 03:30 hours this morning .
The accident happened when the truck rammed into the bus after it ran out of fuel and stopped on the road.
Police Spokesperson Charity Chanda confirmed the development to ZANIS in Livingstone today.
Ms Chanda said the Mitsubishi Bus registration number AAR 9025 was carrying passengers from Lusaka and the Argosi International Truck registration number 275 CFH GB and trailer number 224 CFL GB also coming from Lusaka was laden with another broken down truck, groundnuts and molasses.
“What happened was the Mitsubishi bus coming from Lusaka with passengers ran out of fuel and stopped on the road, so a truck-Argosi International, registration number 275 CFH GB, with trailer’s number 224 CFL GB, also coming from Lusaka hit the bus and left two people dead and three injured,” she said.
Ms Chanda however said it was difficult to confirm the exact number of the dead and injured as the truck was still on the road by press time.
“Right now it is difficult to confirm the exact number of the injured and the dead because the truck is still on the road so we want to find out if there are any people that we have not yet come across that are injured or dead. But for now, the number taken to Livingstone General Hospital is two dead, three injured and receiving treatment,” she said.
