The Lusaka Women Football league ( LWFL ) has called on the corporate world and other stakeholders to come on board and sponsor women football in the country.
And the 2013 Lusaka Women Football League is set to kick off this weekend with the reigning league Champions Chilenje girls expected to continue with their dominance of the league for a second time in a row.
LWFL Deputy General Secretary Godwin Chintu says the Corporate world and other stakeholders should consider extending their respective community response programmes to sponsoring women football id in n interview in Lusaka has called on the corporate world and other stakeholder to come on board and sponsor women football in the country.
ZANIS sports reports that Chintu in an interview, today, says women football in the country needs the attentions and support of the corporate world and other business houses for its development.
He says the business houses and other stakeholders must consider extending their support of mainline football to sponsoring women football on equal footing.
The LWFL Deputy General Secretary lamented that his Administration was facing a number of challenges in managing the league with little or no cash to use.
He said in most cases the Women football teams hardly have enough equipment such as jerseys, football boots and balls to use.
He said the other major challenge his association was facing was like of funds for prize monies to motivate women and girls to engage themselves in the sport.
“Mostly and most importantly we are facing challenges of raising funds for Prize monies which are necessary for motivation. Women and girls need to be motivated to engage in soccer through prize monies,” he said.
He said there was need for the soccer fraternity in the country to emulate former Football Association of Zambia (FAZ ) official Teddy Mulonga’s gesture of donating footballs to women teams in the country.
He said Mulonga during his tenure at FAZ had donated 60 footballs to women teams in the country, a gesture he said had gone a long way in developing women football in the country.
And following the pre-season preparatory women football matches, which are curtain raisers like the men’s football the Charity Shield, last weekend, the women football league in the region was ready to start this weekend.
