A 26-year-old manager at Petrol Link Filling Station in Samfya district in Luapula Province has appeared in the magistrate’s court for trial in matter in which he is charged with theft by public servant.
Before Magistrate Kanunka Mambwe was Thomas Phiri of house number One Rural Compound of Samfya district.
Mr Phiri is alleged to have stolen K18, 966 that came to his position by virtue of his employment.
Particulars of the offense are that Mr Phiri, between 24th and 25th of March, 2014, being the person employed as a manager at Samfya Petrol Link Filling Station, did steal K18, 966.00 cash which came in his possession by virtue of his employment.
Mr Phiri has since been charged with two counts.
In the first count he is charged with theft by servant, contrary to Sections 278 and 265 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
In the second count he is charged with the offence of giving false information to a public officer, contrary to Section 125 (a) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Magistrate Mambwe has since set today May 27, 2014 as the day for trial.
