THE Road Development Agency (RDA) has signed a contract with BSBK Limited to upgrade 113 kilometres of Samfya-Kasaba -Lubwe road at a cost of K439,062,226 million.
Speaking at a signing ceremony in Lusaka yesterday, RDA chief executive officer, Bernard Chiwala said the road would enhance tourism activities in Luapula Province as it will pass along Lake Bangweulu from the south to the north.
Mr Chiwala said the agency expected the contractor to fully mobilise and commence works within three months from the date of signing the contracts.
He said the upgrading of the 113kilometre stretch would enhance the smooth passage of goods and services to and from Samfya through Lubwe to Kasaba once completed.
“The scope of works includes but not limited to clearing of bush and vegetation, construction of new double seal bituminous surfacing, spoiling of unsuitable material, provision of guardrails, provision of road markings and traffic signs,” he said.
BSBK chief executive officer, Rtmeshwar Gupta assured that the company would deliver as they had not only good engineers but also experience of 30 years in the road construction sector.
Meanwhile, the RDA has received designs of some roads under the Link-Zambia road project as well as submissions for the preliminary reports for reviewing.
Mr Chiwala said the agency received designs for the Chingola-Solwezi Road and the Lusaka and Kapiri dual carriage way, widening of the road between Serenje and Nakonde and Chingola-Kasumbalesa, among others.
He said designs under the project had been completed and that the RDA would begin inviting contractors once resources were available.
