Kabompo, Feb 28, 2014, ZANIS– An Health Specialist in Kabompo District has commended secondary school girls in the area for showing interest in accessing contraceptives to prevent early pregnancies.
Kabompo family planning district outreach coordinator, Osward Chikwaba says t it is pleasing to see girls in school uniforms visiting Kabompo district hospital to access Jadelee, a contraceptive that prevents pregnancy for a period of five years.
Mr. Chikwaba said this in an interview in Kabompo District today.
He said the stance by the school girls was encouraging because it will give them an opportunity to have no pregnancies and
complete their secondary education.
Mr Chikwaba appealed to those who have not accessed contraceptives to go to nearest health facilities for help so that they can have an
opportunity to complete their education.
Unplanned pregnancies occurs to most girls of school going age thereby denying them the right to education.
Most of these school going girls are either forced to early marriages or made to stay at home to nurses their newborns.
