FINANCE Minister Alexander Chikwanda has charged that paying tax is a civic duty for every Zambian.
Mr Chikwanda said Zambia had a long way to go to make meaningful impact on poverty eradication and that massive resources were needed for the country to successfully accomplish the crusade of improved welfare for all citizens.
He said all Zambians including the unemployed were in one way or the other tax payers.
The Minister said this when he opened the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) office in Chinsali yesterday.
“It is therefore a sacrosanct duty for Government to ensure that the tax revenue from its squeezed and overstretched tax payers is used most prudently for the benefit of society,” Mr Chikwanda said.
He said the Patriotic Front (PF) was taking a new developmental dimension of spending more funds to infrastructural development as compared to recurrent excessive expenditure like other previous Governments.
“The emphasis President Michael Sata has placed on infrastructure development is significant because all forms of development, agriculture, industry, manufacturing and even commercial activities cannot bear fruit in the absence of infrastructure,” he said.
He said structural imbalances were not easy to correct but that the PF Government was determined to change things.
What tax is this? Windfall?
