THE MAN who recently defected from the United Party for National Development (UPND) to join the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) has predicated a bright future for his party.
Joseph Malamba, who was UPND Luapula Province information and publicity deputy secretary and is now FDD’s provincial chairperson for mobilisation, said come 2016, his party would carry the day with its president Edith Nawakwi moving to plot one as national president.
Mr Malamba said in an interview yesterday that there was no future for the UPND because it lacked seriousness and unity and that was the reason why he left the party to join the FDD.
“When I resigned, I told UPND that they can’t form government because they are not serious and united. No wonder they lost the Mansa by-election because they were not working with party structures,” Mr Malamba said.
“The next president will not be Hakainde Hichilema but Edith Nawakwi because she has a vision for the Zambian people, she is humble and grassroots-oriented.”
He said the FDD would go flat-out and recruit members from all political parties regardless of their status, tribe or race and they would be brought in his party to form government with Ms Nawakwi.
Mr Malamba said Ms Nawakwi was one of the 22 Cabinet ministers who said no to the MMD’s third term because she was a woman who only accepted what was right and said no to what was wrong.
