IT IS darkest before dawn, says Chishimba Kambwili.
In a statement following his episode being detained, bundled in a police van at Police headquarters and conveyed to Luanshya under heavy police escort, Kamwbili said nobody said it would be easy, given his drive to improve the outlook of Roan, his childhood township.
Kambwili said he was prepared to sleep rough as he spoke for the voiceless and underprivileged.
He narrated how late president and PF founder, Michael Sata once told him to buckle up and not despair, as the road to the presidency was long.
“For the last 12 years I have served the people of Roan Constituency and the people of Zambia in general, I contributed immensely during the battle against MMD. Mr Sata being my mentor told me to say ‘it’s a long road to the Presidency, buckle up and do not despair for as long as you prioritise the marginalised, God will see you through and take you to the helm’,” Kambwili recalled.
He said if successive MMD presidents embarked on a mission to fix the opposition, the PF would not be in government today.
Kambwili applauded former presidents Levy Mwanawasa and Rupiah Banda, who allowed him to carry out his job as member of parliament for Roan.
“President Mwanawasa allowed me to speak for the people of Roan without intimidation. President Banda and President Sata equally allowed me to execute my duties as member of parliament for Roan Constituency. The people of Roan gave me a mandate to prioritise their interests. If for instance the MMD presidents fixed us because we were in opposition, PF wouldn’t be in government right now. Since the year 2006, I have initiated a number of community empowerment projects, especially for the youths and women. Most of the time empowerment comes from my own pocket. I represent the people of Roan without fear unconditionally, this includes those that voted for me and those that didn’t,” Kambwili stated.
“I grew up in Roan Constituency and my drive to improve the outlook of my childhood township runs through my blood. I reserve my comments for the current president but I am sure it’s obvious for all to see how the opposition is being squeezed. For the people of Roan as well as the general citizenry, I am prepared to sleep rough due to the fact that I am a man of the people and one who takes pride in speaking for the voiceless. I am a man of the poor because I suffered as a child and that experience has turned my heart soft when it comes to the less fortunate. Believe me, I know what suffering is…#Chishimbalobe! (a serious call to the table for food which can only be ignored at own expense),” Kambwili said.
He maintained that he was ready and willing to put his head on the line in order to liberate Roan Constituency and the country at large.
“Every Saturday, I receive scores of people, either in my home or at my office. I drink tea with them and attend to all their problems consistently. To this effect, I plan on launching a tertiary education scheme in my constituency where I will pay for students that have exceptional results. This is to continue all the way through tertiary education. I believe that my will to serve my people has kept my spirit up and I draw strength from speaking against the ills of those in power. I am ready and willing to put my head on the line so that I can liberate Roan Constituency and Zambia at large. The process currently being undertaken where I am being harassed left right and centre is what I fondly refer to as the darkness hour before dawn. Nobody said it would be easy, anything good takes time but it’s just a matter of time until everyone opens their eyes to see exactly what is going on,” said Kambwili.
“My people of Roan constituency and the country at large, I Dr Chishimba Kambwili, have decided to always stand up for you, come rain come sunshine. Stand for something or fall for anything. The struggle for a greater, safer, secure and corruption free Zambia continues.”
