THE Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) says the Registrar of the Tax Appeals Tribunal has no powers to cite it for contempt of court because she has no inherent jurisdiction or privileges enjoyed by a court of judicature.
This in a case in which The Post Newspapers has asked the Registrar of the Tax Appeals Tribunal to cite the statutory body for contempt of court for disregarding an order for the ZRA to hand back its properties.
When the case came up for hearing before Tax Appeals Tribunal registrar Chola Shapi-Mutambo, ZRA legal counsel Diana Goramoto said the role of the tribunal is to resolve problems, which arise during the administration and collection of tax.
