THE Kitwe High Court has convicted a 30-year-old dangerous and unlicensed driver of Chingola for running over three pedestrians and killing them on the spot.
Masuzyo Zimba, appearing before Justice Isaac Kamwendo, pleaded guilty to three counts of dangerous driving, contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the case are that on June 7, 2015, in Chingola, Zimba caused the death of Isaac Chisha, George Nguni and Ekelesi Tole by driving on a public road in a dangerous manner.
On the material day around 09:00 hours, Zimba, being a taxi driver without a driving license, was driving a Toyota Corolla when he knocked down the three pedestrians.
The trio was walking along the road when they mate their fate while Zimba was trying to overtake a truck and they all died on the spot.
Mr Justice Kamwendo said he found Zimba guilty based on his own confession and facts as presented before the court.
“Upon your own admission of the charge and that the facts are true and correct, I find you guilty and convict you accordingly,” he said.
The matter comes up tomorrow for sentencing.
Meanwhile, Justice Kamwendo has fined a taxi-driver K1, 800 and revoked his driving license for 12 months for causing death by dangerous driving.
In this case, Jimmy Mwewa, was facing one count of dangerous driving, contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
On July 11, 2015, Mwape caused the death of Jack Mwaba, while driving dangerously on a public road.
The court heard that on the material day, Mwewa was driving on excess speed and lost control, therefore ramming into the deceased along Kawama road.
Mwaba sustained head injuries and died on the spot.
