A bus driver has been shot and killed by a passenger on the Watson Highway in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday. It is alleged the driver of a public transport bus was reportedly shot while driving, North Coast Courier reported.
The driver lost control of the bus, carrying about 20 passengers, before it went down a small embankment.
IPSS Mediccal Rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst said their Advanced Life Support paramedic declared the driver dead at the scene due to his extensive injuries.
“Multiple passengers were transported to hospital for shock and minor scrapes and bruises,” added Herbst.
Investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident, a bus driver sustained serious condition after he was shot on Ontdekkers Road in Johannesburg last year apparently trying to save his passengers from being shot.
“Paramedics from ER24 were called to the scene shortly before 6am where they found the bus on the side of the road near the Mollie intersection,” said spokesperson Werner Vermaak.
“Upon assessment the paramedics found the driver of the bus, believed to be in his fifties, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Another person, believed to be a passenger on the bus, was found with a graze wound on his abdomen.”
