A book chronicling the life of First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe in pictures was bought for $50 000 by Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founder Prophet Walter Magaya after he outbid other potential buyers.
The bids for the book started at $5 000 during the First Lady’s 50th birthday celebrations gala and fund-raising dinner held at the First Family’s home in Borrowdale, Harare, on Saturday evening and spilled into the early hours of yesterday.
The book is titled “Amai Dr Grace Mugabe at 50” and has pictures depicting the various stages of the First Lady’s life.
Proceeds from the fund-raising dinner would be distributed to several charity organisations this week to which Amai Mugabe is patron. It was an interesting show as corporates and individuals competed to bid for the first copy.
But no one could surpass the bar set by Prophet Magaya at $50 000 and he eventually received the first copy of the book which was signed by both President Mugabe and Amai Mugabe, amid deafening cheers from the guests. Brainworks Capital also ran a good show by taking the book at $20 000 after becoming the second highest bidders.
Speaking to The Herald after receiving his copy of the book, Prophet Magaya said the charity work that Amai Mugabe was doing deserved support from everyone.
In the foreword to the book, the “Amai at 50” organising committee described Amai Mugabe as a great gracious lady.
“Born a rank outsider by virtue of poverty and gender, she found a binary platform to defy destiny by mere force of will, grace and graciousness,” said the committee.
Not even the elemental forces aligned against her could hold her back. We write this as foreword to this book on Her Excellency the First Lady Amai Dr Grace Ntombizodwa Mugabe who has settled herself into our hearts internally by her conduct, heart and deeds,” the committee said in the commentary.
“The affectionate name ‘Dr Amai’ which she has worn with humility without losing her head or purpose is a case in point. The name is a description of a great gracious lady. The ‘Dr’ recognises her zeal for knowledge.
“Amai talks of her motherly nature in which her twin loves and passions of philanthropy and being a sympathetic ear to all Zimbabweans facing challenges lie. She is a woman who took challenges in her life as a pivot to attain high goals.”
Amai is doing it at a greater level which warrants our support.”
Prophet Magaya said he was happy to meet the First Family and he would continue to support Amai Mugabe’s philanthropic work.
During his crusade in Botswana recently, Prophet Magaya indicated that it was his wish to meet President Mugabe.
