Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader Julius Malema is reportedly set to visit Zimbabwe next week, where he is expected to talk about the recent xenophobic attacks that rocked parts of South Africa.
According to reports, an advert circulating in Zimbabwean media suggested that Malema will be in Harare on May 6 and will speak at a conference held by Alpha Media Holdings (AMH), which is owned by Zimbabwean entrepreneur Trevor Ncube.
Ncube is also the owner of the Mail and Guardian newspaper.
About 250 to 300 people are expected to attend the event and they are each going to pay $100 (R1 200) to listen to Malema speak, the reports said.
A report by The New Age said that an AMH advert published in the News Day newspaper repeats some of Malema’s past quotes on xenophobia such as: “Don’t blame foreigners for SA problems” and “We need each other South Africans. Let us not kill fellow Africans”.
Malema’s invitation to the event comes after attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa killed at least seven people.
Malema himself made headlines a few weeks ago when he blamed President Jacob Zuma for the xenophobic attacks.
The EFF leader was also expected to talk about his political career.
Malema was last in Zimbabwe in 2012 when he was president of the ANC Youth League, after he was invited by President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party.
