President Jacob Zuma will on Friday meet with leaders of organisations representing foreign nationals resident in the country at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guest House in Pretoria.
President Zuma will meet with leaders representing foreign nationals from within Africa and also Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The meeting, postponed from Thursday, forms part of government’s efforts to deal with the recent spate of attacks on foreigners.
On Wednesday, President Zuma met with business, labour, faith community, and other leaders to discuss the issue.
He spoke to the media after the meeting, saying, “We thought it was important that we should all meet because it cannot be the job of the government only to deal with this matter. From the government point of view, we have put together certain departments to work on this matter, but we established a committee that is going to take over matters from now when the violent attacks have ended but also to say ‘what do we do to ensure it will never happen again?’ ”
Meanwhile, Free State Premier, Ace Magashule, has joined President Jacob Zuma and all peace loving citizens of the country in strongly condemning the senseless and barbaric killing of foreign nationals in xenophobic attacks.
Magashule says it is imperative that such attacks are labelled as nothing more than criminal. He says that despite such attacks, the Free State hosted the China in South Africa Week earlier this month as part of the international relations strategy of the Provincial Government to intensify the investment drive by China and the BRICS countries towards the economic development.
He says unfortunately criminal elements are using genuine concerns to drive their own agenda.
