The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) says it will deploy a short term election observer delegation to the Sudan general elections scheduled for April this year.
COMESA Mission Leader Immaculee Nahayo, who disclosed this in a statement to ZANIS April 7th evening said this follows an invitation from the Sudanese government.
Ms. Nahayo says the delegations scheduled to arrive in Khartoum on Wednesday on April 8 and will be led by Ms. Nahayo a member of the COMESA Committee of Elders from Burundi.
She said the mission will also include senior government officials from ten COMESA Member States.
Ms. Nahayo said the delegation will be in the country until April 16,during which period it will observe the concluding stages of the pre-election activities voting, vote counting and declaration of election results.
She said during that period she will hold discussions with key electoral stakeholders, civil society, media and key electoral management institutions.
Ms. Nahayo the delegation will exchange views with the diplomatic community as well as with other election observer missions.
