Deputy Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Mwimba Malama has said government currently was attending to all major roads in the country.
In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr. Malama said government was committed to ensuring that there was a good road network in the country.
Mr. Malama said the Link Zambia 8000 project was evidence of government’s commitment to improving the road sector in the three years it has been in power.
He disclosed that periodic maintenance works on the 288.4 kilometre Solwezi-Mwinilunga stretch in North-Western Province were in progress.
He said the road project was allocated K13.7 million for maintenance awaiting comprehensive rehabilitation.
He further said the Road Development Agency (RDA) has already signed a K13.7 million contract with Brian Colquhoun Hugh O’Donnell and Partners (BCHOD) consulting firm to supervise the road project.
Meanwhile, Mr. Malama has said 70 percent of the road works on the Luangwa D145 road from Luangwa Bridge to Feira Boma has been done so far.
Mr. Malama said it was government’s deliberate policy to ensure that all remote parts of the country were developed.
He said the contractor, China Geo, was on site adding that work was progressing well according to schedule.
He said this development has cheered residents in the area.
The deputy minister further disclosed that the Mpika/Nabwalya road, which leads to Chief Nabwalya’s chiefdom, was also being worked on.
Mr. Malama said Raubex Construction Company has also been contracted to repair the road network from Mambwe district to Nabwalya chiefdom.
He said the contractor was already on site.
Mr. Malama added that the Chama/Matumbo road work project is moving at a steady pace.
