Four perish in road accident in Rufunsa

Rufunsa, August 23,ZANIS—Four children have died on the spot while 17 other people are battling for their lives at St. Luke’s Mpanshya Mission Hospital in Rufunsa District following two separate fatal accidents.

Both accidents involving two different Noah vehicles happened in Chimusanya area while the second one in Lukwipa area of Rufunsa District.


The identity of the four children aged between two and twelve years have been withheld until the next of kin are informed.

The two accidents have occured barely two days after one person died on the spot while 30 others were admitted at Chongwe District Hospital.

Both Rufunsa District Community Medical Officer Musanda Siyolwe and St. Luke’s Mpanshya Mission Hospital Administrator Valeria Kabaso confirmed the accident to ZANIS.

Dr Siyolwe explained that the first accident happened in Chimusanya area after a tyre burst where a two year old toddler died on the spot while 7 other people were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

She further explained that the second accident coincidentally happened in the same way where three children also died on the spot while 10 other people were taken to the hospital.

"I wish to confirm that we have recorded two separate road traffic accidents both involving Noah vehicles which have claimed four lives of children", she said.

Dr. Siyolwe stated that all the accident victims have been treated and their conditions have been described as stable.

And St. Luke’s Mpanshya Mission Hospital Administrator Valeria Kabaso also confirmed receiving the accident victims at the Mission Hospital.

Sister Kabaso has since commended medical personnel for stabilising the victims.

She added that the total number of accident victims admitted at the hospital is 17 and are in a stable condition.

"So total number of admission currently is 17 with four people brought in dead. At the moment we have managed to stabilise the survivors," she said.

On Thursday night, one person died on the spot while over 30 were admitted to Chongwe District Hospital after a Lusaka bound Rosa Mini Bus failed to negotiate a corner and hit into a mountain.
