Govt. committed to fight animal disease – Simusa
Solwezi, June 22,2014, ZANIS —- Government says it is committed to fighting animal disease in the country.
Agriculture and livestock Minister Wilbur Simuusa says this is because the livestock sector has the potential to contribute to the growth of the country’s economy if well managed.
Mr Simuusa says government wants to ensure that livestock farmers have access to affordable and quality breeding stock that will help them improve their production.
He said this is why his ministry is constructing breeding centers that will be supplying quality breeding animals to farmers at affordable prices.
ZANIS reports that the Minister was speaking in Solwezi yesterday when he opened the 53rd Northwestern province agricultural, mining, industrial and commercial show under the theme” breaking new grounds.
Mr Simuusa said in Northwestern province government is constructing the Jiwundu breeding center in Solwezi district at a cost of over K700, 000 in addition to the Kanyama breeding center.
He said animals at Kanyama breeding center in Mwinilunga district will soon be offloaded to farmers once cabinet approves the modalities.
