MTN-Zambia has called for the development of innovations that would contribute to the country’s economic growth through increased access to information by using the internet.
MTN-Zambia Chief Sales and Distribution Officer, Amon Jere said access to information can greatly contribute to the social and economic development of the country.
Mr. Jere said internet penetration in the country was low hence MTN was taking a leading role in ensuring that there was increased uptake by removing barriers to entry through various initiatives such as innovative and affordable device services.
He said this during the launch of the second phase of the MTN Appathon competition in Lusaka today.
Mr. Jere said the launch of the Appathon application competition was meant to create a platform for people to come up with innovative life changing applications that can be relevant for use in Zambia and the world at large.
He stated that Zambia has massive young talent that needs to be supported and exposed.
He said this is because the youth people can come up with creative inventions which can be adopted and uploaded for public use.
And one of the Appathon application developer competitor, Emmanuel Sakala commended MTN for creating a platform that will enable young people to showcase their talents of innovative applications.
Mr. Sakala said he has developed an application known as Zedhealth facility that can enable people to locate any health centre close to them using android powered devices.
