FOOTBALL Association of Zambia committee member Lenny Nhkuwa says the national Under-17 women team is acclimatising well in the United States in readiness of the Costa Rica 2014 FIFA World Cup finals.
Nkhuwa, who is in charge of women football, said from San Rafel in San Francisco that the team was in high spirits with the players adjusting to time difference and the weather.
“I saw how difficult it was for the players in the beginning because we had to readjust to the time difference which meant us training at the time we should have been sleeping back home in Zambia. But I am happy that the girls are acclimatising and settling in well,” she said.
Zambia kicks-off her campaign on March 15, at the Costa Rica National Stadium in San Jose with a match against Italy, who finished third at the UEFA Under-17 championships, a match that will come after the hosts kick-start the tournament against Venezuela at the same venue.
The Albert Kachinga side will then play Venezuela on March 18, before wrapping up group fixtures against Costa Rica on March 22, at the Ricard Saprissa Ayma Stadium in the town of Tibas.
Meanwhile, Nhkuwa congratulated the senior women team for beating Tanzania to advance to the final round of qualifiers for a place at the Namibia 2014 Africa Women Championship finals.
She said there was need for the team to work hard as Zimbabwe was a strong opponent but were beatable.
