Members of Ely’s Countess Free Church in Cambridgeshire, UK, will be pairing up on Saturday to take on a 24-hour cycling challenge.

A group of 10 church members are raising money towards a trip to Lusaka in Zambia later in the summer.

The group are going to help build a school in a slum area, as well as support local Zambians with their different projects working amongst orphans, street kids, and disadvantaged families.

The 24-hour cycling event will begin at 10am on Saturday at the church, in Chapel Street, where coffee and cake will be available for people to drop in and enjoy while the first cyclists climb about their exercise bikes.

All proceeds, along with sponsorship for the cycling, will go towards the Zambia trip.

Rev Karl Relton said: “We are looking forward to helping in a practical way amongst people who face grinding poverty year on year. It’s great how the church members have got together to support those undertaking the trip, raising funds in any way they can.”
