-Government is happy with the construction works of a K54 million bridge across Kafue River connecting Chiawa to Chirundu in Lusaka Province.

Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary, Wamunyima Muwana, says he is happy with the contractor’s positive attitude towards work as workers were found on site even when it was showering in the area.

Mr Muwana, who found workers assembling the long awaited steel bridge that was procured from China, said he was impressed with the works done so far.

He was led to the construction site by Chirundu District Commissioner Maxwell Syamalimba.

And Arab Consulting Engineers’ Mohamed Nagib said the contractor, China Henan, is working around the clock to ensure that the works are completed by April this year.

When completed, the Chiawa Bridge will replace the Pontoon that is currently being operated by the Engineering Corporation Services (ESCO) on Kafue River in the Lower Zambezi.
