-Government has released K5 billion to rehabilitate feeder roads in Kapoche Constituency in Petauke district in Eastern province.
MMD Kapoche Member of Parliament Nicholas Banda confirmed the development to ZANIS in Lusaka today.
Mr Banda said in an interview that a named Chinese contractor who has been allocated to carry out the project will soon move to the site.
Mr Banda named some of the feeder roads to be worked on a Mwanjabantu-Nyanje, Kapoche-Boma and Nyanje-Boarder roads that would open up the area once completed.
“I’m very grateful to the government for releasing K5bllion to repair the feeder roads in my area because once completed the area will be opened up,” Mr Banda said.
Mr Banda who is also Local Government and Housing Deputy Minister disclosed that his ministry has released K1.2 billion Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to Petauke District Council for completion of various developmental projects in the area.
The Deputy Minister further disclosed that a brand new grader has been procured for his council to repair the road network which he said most feeder roads were in a bad shape.
Meanwhile, Mr Banda has directed Rural Road Unit Engineers at the Eastern Provincial Administration to work closely with local authorities so that the rehabilitation of roads is accelerated not only in Petauke district but the province as a whole.
