—–Lusaka province Permanent Secretary Wamunyima Muwana says there is need to develop and diversify the tourism products and attractions through innovations and sustainable initiatives to alleviate poverty.
Mr Muwana said well planned and implemented tourism programmes and projects are vital to a meaningful development hence the need to boost tourism in Lusaka province.
He said the successful co-hosting of the 20th section of the World Tourism Organization General Assembly made Zambia a better known tourism destination.
He said government through the Ministry of Tourism and Arts would ride on UNWTO success story to enhance tourism growth through the development and diversification of tourism products and attractions.
Mr Muwana however, noted that Zambia’s tourism sector is under-performing and as such many of the products and services being offered currently should be full-developed.
He said there is need to seriously address some challenges which have slowed the quick development of the tourism sector.
The Lusaka province Permanent Secretary was speaking at a consultative meeting on tourism products development at Government Complex in Lusaka today.
He urged all stakeholders including the communities to help the Ministry of Tourism and Arts undertake tourism development activities.
And Lusaka District Commissioner Ashell Kampengele says Zambia’s tourism products are a source of wealth and employment creation for the communities.
Mr Kampengele urged participants at a consultative meeting to enhance their knowledge on tourism so that they in turn relay it to their respective communities.
