Access to Justice important – Seyuba
Solwezi, July 19, 2013, ZANIS….North western province Permanent
Secretary Augustine Seyuba has urged parents and guardians in the
province to fight child delinquency by imparting good morals in them.
Mr Seyuba said society must rise to the challenge to care for
children adding that it is everyone’s
responsibility to fight and ensure that children are protected from
breaking the law.
He said this in Solwezi today in a speech read on his behalf by his
deputy, Alfred Chingi.
This was during the legal education and public awareness
campaign dabbed the “Juvenile delinquency-Everyone’s Fight For a Crime
Free Society” organized by Access to Justice- under its Communication,
Coordination and Cooperation (Triple C 1) project.
Mr Seyuba said access to justice is a fundamental right and a central
concept in the broader field to justice dispensation in the country.
He said the Solwezi district chapter guarantees the right to an
effective access to legal aid by people who lack sufficient resources.
He noted that access to justice is an enabling right that allows
people who perceive their rights as having been violated to enforce them
and seek redress.
Mr Seyuba said government is in a hurry to ensure that the welfare of its citizens
and access to justice is enhanced.
Mr Seyuba said all institutions involved in the project have a duty
to put an end to injustices which are going on in the justice delivery
system as they are the ones who deal directly with juveniles and other
vulnerable people in society.
Speaking Earlier Triple C 1 project chairperson, Ikechuku Iduma said
improved communication, coordination and cooperation among
institutions involved in promoting access to justice will make easier
and more equitable access to justice for many Zambians especially the
poor.
Mr Iduma who is also Principle Resident Magistrate said the Triple C1
project include the Zambia Police, Department of Social Welfare, Young
Christian Women Association, Drug Enforcement Commission, Anti-
Corruption Commission and Legal Aid Board among other institutions
within the Justice system.
The initiative which is under access to Justice is basically to
improve the effectiveness and efficiency in the administration of
the criminal and juvenile justice systems.
