—-Northern Provincial Permanent Secretary (PS) Hlobota Nkunika, has called for strategies and promotion of sustainable food production and marketing for the farmers in the province.
Mr Nkunika said responsible officers should plan and ensure that production and agricultural sales of smallholder households in targeted areas are sustainably improved.
Speaking during the official opening of smallholder Productivity Promotion Programme Strategic workshop at Sinamu Lodge in Kasama yesterday, Mr Nkunika said the workshop should exert much effort in sustainable food production and marketing.
The PS added that the program should seek to contribute to increased incomes and food nutrition security among poor rural households in Luapula, Muchinga and Northern Provinces.
He also added that as agricultural experts, they should strive to plan and train farmers to be always ready to adapt to any change of weather and other calamities so that they excel in their farming activities.
Mr. Nkunika praised International Fund for Agricultural and Department (IFAD) and Finish Government for sponsoring the programme.
And Northern Provincial Agricultural Coordinator (PACO), Andrew Banda, assured Northern Provincial PS that the workshop will bring necessary measures of improved food production and marketing.
Mr Banda said the workshop will work in coordination with Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) and other stakeholders to revamp food production and marketing in the province.
He urged workshop participants to safeguard food security through improve d food production.
The workshop was attended by all agricultural district senior staff and their camp officers in Northern Provinces to promote food and livestock production marketing in the province.
